Citizenship
Our Citizenship program granted nearly $2.9 million to programs promoting youth civic engagement
and volunteerism in the Chicago-area.
|
Mission
The Citizenship Program’s mission is to develop an informed and actively-engaged
citizenry and create opportunities for participation in our democratic society.
A veteran of World War I and editor of one of our nation's largest newspapers, Col.
Robert R. McCormick was a patriotic American and devoted Chicagoan. He understood
the importance of active civic engagement and lived his life accordingly. The Foundation’s
Citizenship Program seeks to honor and perpetuate McCormick’s dedication to responsible
citizenship by promoting active civic engagement and facilitating civic dialogue
on issues of critical national importance.
In recognition of Col. McCormick’s patriotism and service to country, the Citizenship
Program also supports initiatives that honor citizen soldiers and veterans.
