Mission
The Education Program seeks to create a statewide system that provides access
to quality early care and education for all children ages birth-to-eight and improves
the quality of programs serving those young children in low-income communities in
the Chicago region.
Reflecting Col. Robert R. McCormick's wishes that his bequest be used for "religious,
scientific, literary or educational purposes…," the McCormick Foundation
maintains a strong commitment to education. In 1993, responding to new research
in brain development and its effect on early learning, the Foundation's board of
directors changed the direction of the Education Program to focus on the needs of
Chicago's youngest children. The Education Program funds in the areas of public
policy, public awareness and building quality infrastructure.
