Poster Contest Celebrates Lincoln Bicentennial
Robert R. McCormick Museum to display winning student entries in 2009
WHEATON, IL, Nov. 12, 2008
Students are invited to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth by entering a poster contest sponsored by the Robert R. McCormick Museum at Cantigny Park. The winning original artwork will be exhibited at the museum from Feb. 1 to April 30, 2009.
“Robert McCormick’s grandfather, Joseph Medill, had many dealings with Lincoln during his days as publisher of the Chicago Tribune,” said Diane Gutenkauf, director of the McCormick Museum. “And of course Cantigny was originally Medill’s estate. So there’s a real Lincoln connection here. The poster contest gives students of all ages an opportunity to participate in the bicentennial.”
The deadline for entry is Dec. 19, 2008. A panel of distinguished judges from the community will select the winning posters, with two winners from each grade level, first through twelfth.
In addition to having their art displayed at the McCormick Museum, winners will receive an invitation to the exhibit opening celebration, a certificate of accomplishment and two free passes to Cantigny Park.
Further details about the contest, including the attached entry form with format guidelines, are available at Cantigny.org. Questions may be directed to 630 260 8159 or DGutenkauf@Cantigny.org.
