The First Division Museum is proud to loan for display a World War II Willys Jeep to the Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin for the month of November.

One of the most iconic military vehicles of World War II, the legendary Willys GP (Jeep) was a General Purpose cargo and personnel carrier. Designed to be light weight, the Jeep was known for its ruggedness and its ability to go just about anywhere. The Jeep accompanied the 1st Division as it made its way through North Africa and Europe. After World War II, the Jeep’s effective use continued within the military and became popular with the civilian population, where it’s still associated with rugged adventure. Today the Jeep name continues and is currently owned by the Chrysler Corporation.

The Historic Military Vehicle Program is just one way the Cantigny First Division Foundation promotes public learning about America’s military heritage and affairs, as well as honors and remembers the Big Red One—the famed 1st Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. The foundation chronicles and preserves the Big Red One’s illustrious and courageous contributions, as well as conducts public outreach through the Cantigny First Division Museum, Robert R. McCormick Research Center and the Cantigny Military History Series. The First Division Museum can be found on the grounds of Cantigny Park at 1 S 151 Winfield Rd., Wheaton, IL.
