THE McCORMICK FREEDOM MUSEUM PRESENTS AUTHOR GENE HEALY’S THE CULT OF THE PRESIDENCY

Program re-examines the role of the Executive Branch and the rise of the Imperial Presidency

WHEN: Thursday, June 19
6-7:30 pm
WHERE: McCormick Freedom Museum
445 N. Michigan Ave.
Chicago, IL 60611
WHAT: Modern presidents from both parties have vastly expanded their executive powers and raised legitimate concerns about an Imperial Presidency. That powerful role is far from the constitutionally constrained one envisioned by our Founders. In his provocative new book, The Cult of the Presidency: America’s Dangerous Devotion to Executive Power, author Gene Healy, senior editor at the Cato Institute, argues that the presidency needs to be reined in, its powers checked and supervised, and its wartime authority put back under the oversight of the Congress and the courts. Join the Freedom Museum as we welcome Gene Healy for an eye-opening discussion about the rise of the Imperial presidency and its impact on freedom at home and abroad.
CONTACT: For more information or to schedule an interview with Gene Healy, contact Abby Taylor at 312 222 3188 or ATaylor@McCormickFoundation.org
