WHEATON, IL, March 22, 2010
The First Division Museum at Cantigny invites the public to a free evening program about U.S. Army innovation on Wednesday, April 7, at 7:30 pm.

Speaking will be Jon T. Hoffman, general editor of A History of Innovation: U.S. Army Adaptation in War and Peace, a Center for Military History publication published in January. For the book, Hoffman brought together 11 authors with stories that show how determination and good ideas by soldiers and Army civilians can have a major impact in times of both peace and war.

Hoffman will discuss the real-life stories and also the theories behind the process of innovation and modernization by the Army.

Hoffman is chief of Contemporary Studies Branch, Histories Division, at the U.S. Army Center of Military History. A retired Marine Corps Reserve colonel, he has an M.A. in military history from Ohio State University. He is the author of Chesty: The Story of Lieutenant General Lewis B. Puller (2001); Once a Legend: “Red Mike” Edson of the Marine Raiders (1994); and editor of Tip of the Spear: U.S. Army Small-Unit Actions in Iraq, 2004-2007 (2009).

Doors will open at 6:45 pm on April 7. Admission and parking are free. For more information, please call 630 260 8227.

This event is part of the First Division Museum’s popular series, A Date with History. The programs, held on the first Wednesday of each month and other select dates, feature an evening of lively discussion with authors, panelists, historians and special speakers. About the Cantigny First Division Foundation
The Cantigny First Division Foundation, part of the McCormick Foundation, promotes public learning about America’s military heritage and affairs through the history of the Big Red One—the famed 1st Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. The centerpiece of these efforts is the First Division Museum, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2010. The world-class military museum and McCormick Research Center are located on the grounds of Cantigny Park in Wheaton, Illinois. The 500-acre Cantigny estate was home to Col. Robert R. McCormick, publisher of the Chicago Tribune and a veteran of the First Division in World War I.
