DAVID L. GRANGE
President & Chief Executive Officer
McCormick Foundation

David L. Grange began serving as president and chief executive officer of the McCormick Foundation in September 2005. He was the foundation’s executive vice president and chief operating officer from 1999 to 2005.

Grange came to the foundation after 30 years of service in the U.S. Army with his final position as Commanding General of the First Infantry Division, known as the “Big Red One.” In that position, he served in Germany, Bosnia, Macedonia, and Kosovo.

During his military career, Grange served as a Ranger, Green Beret, Aviator, Infantryman, and as a member of Delta Force. Assignments and conflicts took him to Vietnam, Korea, Grenada, Russia, Africa, former Warsaw Pact countries, Central and South America, and the Middle East to include the Gulf War.

Grange serves as the Chairman of the Board of Visitors at the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University. He is on the Board of Directors of the National Strategy Forum, the Society of the First Infantry Division, the Three Fires Council Boy Scouts, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Corporate Council, and he is a trustee for the First Infantry Division Foundation and Marmion Academy.

A Long Island, New York native, born on December 29, 1947, Grange holds a bachelor’s of science degree from North Georgia College and a master’s of public service from Western Kentucky University.

Grange, his wife Holly, and their two sons, David and Matthew, reside in Wheaton, Illinois.



DONALD A. COOKE
Senior Vice President / Philanthropy
McCormick Foundation

Donald A. Cooke began serving as senior vice president for philanthropy of the McCormick Foundation in May 2005. His responsibilities include providing oversight and management to the Foundation’s grantmaking programs in citizenship, communities, education, journalism and special initiatives.

Cooke began his career in Philadelphia at the Franklin Institute Science Museum. Over the course of 12 years he served as director of the Fels Planetarium, director of development, vice president for external affairs, acting museum director and executive vice president for programs and planning. He subsequently served for eight years at the Philadelphia Orchestra, where he served as vice president for external affairs. Prior to his current position, Cooke was the vice president for institutional advancement for the Field Museum in Chicago.

A Philadelphia native, Cooke was educated at Williams College and Harvard University, where he studied astrophysics. He is the author of many papers and articles on astronomy and nonprofit management, and he is author of the book “The Life and Death of Stars,” published by Crown Publishers in 1985.

He currently serves as a board member and on the executive committee of the Illinois Arts Alliance, is a board member of the Donor's Forum of Chicago, is chairman of the City of Lake Forest Historic Preservation Commission and is a board member of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.

Cooke and his wife Sally reside in Lake Forest, Illinois.




LOUIS J. MARSICO
Senior Vice President of Operations
McCormick Foundation

Louis J. Marsico Jr. was promoted to senior vice president of operations on June 1, 2005. Marsico had been serving as the vice president of finance and administration of the McCormick Foundation since December 1999. He joined the Foundation as director of finance in 1987.

Marsico started his financial career in 1981 as a staff auditor with the public accounting firm, Arthur Young. After two years in auditing he moved on to the divisional headquarters of the MCC Powers unit of Mark Controls as their junior financial analyst. Four years later, he left Powers as their manager of field planning and analysis to join the foundation.

A Chicago native, Marsico was born June 18, 1957. He holds a bachelor’s of science in business management from Northeastern Illinois University and a master’s of business administration in finance from DePaul University. He is also a certified public accountant.

Currently, Marsico serves as a director of the Donors Forum of Chicago, a member of the West DuPage Exchange Club, and a member of the DePaul University finance advisory board.

Marsico, his wife Marlene, and their sons Louie, Jonathon, and Michael live in Palatine, IL.



DAVID J. GRANAT
Chief Investment Officer
McCormick Foundation

David J. Granat began serving as the chief investment officer of the McCormick Foundation in June 2007.

Granat began his financial career at Quaker Oats Company, a consumer-goods company, where he held a series of financial management positions, including manager of corporate finance, manager of financial analysis and internal auditor. He was named Quaker’s assistant treasurer in 1982.

He subsequently joined the Tribune Company as treasurer in 1985. Prior to joining the Foundation, Granat served as the Tribune Company’s vice president / investments, where he was responsible for managing the company’s pension fund, 401(k) assets, and other investment portfolios.

A Chicago native, Granat was born on July 27, 1946. He holds a master’s of business administration degree and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Illinois and is a certified public accountant.

Granat and his wife, Lorie, reside in Chicago.
