About the Food Drive

This year’s 2021 WGN Morning News Food Drive will again be virtual due to the coronavirus pandemic. Last year’s food drive raised over $60,000 for the Greater Chicago Food Depository. This year’s food drive will take place from 5-10am on Friday, November 19 and will again benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository (via a grant from WGN-TV Family Charities, a McCormick Foundation Fund.)

Issue Areas

Many families are continuing to experience food insecurity because of the pandemic. As a result, the Food Depository’s network of food pantries and similar programs are still serving at rates far above pre-COVID levels. The Greater Chicago Food Depository, Chicago’s food bank, believes a healthy community starts with food. They are at the center of a network of more than 700 partner organizations and programs – food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, mobile distributions and other partners – working to bring food, dignity and hope to our neighbors across Chicago and Cook County.

McCormick Match

The McCormick Foundation matches all donations to WGN-TV Family Charities at fifty cents on the dollar. With WGN-TV and the Foundation paying all campaign and administrative expenses, one hundred percent of all donations, plus the match is granted to qualified nonprofit organizations.

The McCormick Foundation does not make grants to programs that would financially benefit WGN-TV.
