About the Food Drive
This year’s 2021 WGN Morning News Food Drive will again be virtual due to the coronavirus pandemic. Last year’s food drive raised over $60,000 for the Greater Chicago Food Depository. This year’s food drive will take place from 5-10am on Friday, November 19 and will again benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository (via a grant from WGN-TV Family Charities, a McCormick Foundation Fund.)
Issue Areas
Many families are continuing to experience food insecurity because of the pandemic. As a result, the Food Depository’s network of food pantries and similar programs are still serving at rates far above pre-COVID levels. The Greater Chicago Food Depository, Chicago’s food bank, believes a healthy community starts with food. They are at the center of a network of more than 700 partner organizations and programs – food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, mobile distributions and other partners – working to bring food, dignity and hope to our neighbors across Chicago and Cook County.
